Pregnancy Information -
An Introduction

Taking good care of yourself during pregnancy is important to both mother and baby.

You can never be totally prepared for your pregnancy. In this sense I mean you will not know exactly what to expect during your pregnancy. If this is your first pregnancy, take heart, every pregnancy the same woman goes through is likely to be a different experience.

Every pregnant women want to have a strong, healthy and normal baby. That's the best any mother can ask for. Whether the baby will be a boy or a girl, pretty or handsome, big or small, the most comforting knowledge throughout your pregnancy is knowing that your baby is normal and developing well inside you.

Sometimes your pregnancy might encounter or experience some unfavorable news from your gynae. Often they are only precautionary advice given but might not amount to anything to be of concern. Don't get too worried before it is confirmed.

It is good to keep yourself informed by reading up on pregnancy, it really helps you understand better when your gynae explains things to you during consultations.

There are pregnancy books and magazines that you can turn to. I recommend four pregnancy reading categories that you should look into.

  1. A pregnancy week by week guide.
  2. A pregnancy planner or organizer.
  3. Eating for pregnancy - pregnancy diet.
  4. Exercise for pregnancy.

For a pregnancy guide, I recommend What to Expect When You're Expecting, Third Edition by Heidi Murkoff, Arlene Eisenberg, and Sandee Hathaway or 1000 Questions About Your Pregnancy by Jeffrey, M.D. Thurston, although personally I prefer the former. They provide excellent pregnancy information to guide you through your pregnancy and provide answers to many questions and uncertainties throughout your pregnancy.

As for a pregnancy planner, Your Practical Pregnancy Planner is great help especially in first pregnancies. An excellent companion to your pregnancy guide book. It breaks down the information into manageable monthly checklists. Follow the month to month guidance prepares you adequately when your baby arrives.

Eating right and eating well for your pregnancy is just as important. Eating for Pregnancy: An Essential Guide to Nutrition with Recipes for the Whole Family offers excellent diet information to a healthy pregnancy.

Finally, get a good exercise book for your pregnancy. Staying fit throughout your pregnancy is beneficial to both you and your baby. Julie Tupler and Andrea Thompson's Maternal Fitness: Preparing for a Healthy Pregnancy, an Easier Labor, and a Quick Recovery provides great workouts to keep you strong and energetic.

Having said all these, what is most essential is to live through your pregnancy well, eat healthy, stay positive and happy; it contributes to your baby’s healthy and proper development.
