Cradle Cap
Is my baby having a severe case of dandruff or scalp problem?
Your newborn baby is your pride and joy but when your baby appears to have dandruff or scalp problem it can be quite alarming. It could even be thick, oily, yellowish scaling or in crusting patches; definitely not a pleasant sight.
What your baby is having is most likely a common case of Cradle Cap and you need not be overly concerned. It is not contagious and it is harmless to your baby. Most babies get cradle cap in their first few months of life but it should clear when your baby is between 8 and 12 months old.
Although you don’t really need to do anything about it, but seeing your baby’s scalp condition this way for months and doing nothing can be difficult for some mothers. However, if you must do something about it, there are safe remedies for cradle cap that you can apply such as:
- Shampoo more frequently and simply brush your baby's scalp with a soft brush.
- Rub a small amount of baby oil or olive oil; wait several minutes before brushing it away with a soft brush.
